Sr. Mary Borgia
Sister Mary Borgia was the first principal of Saint Martin School. The school in her time, was known as the Convent Primary School. Sister Borgia, or Mother Borgia as she was known by those of her time was an extremely strict disciplinarian, but she was indeed a good, loving and God-fearing person.
Sister Borgia loved the school so much that sometimes she literally slept there. The lunch programme, the jumble sale every Saturday, the yearly concerts, dinners, school fairs, Red Cross Link, Pre Y.C.W. Legion of Mary, Children of Mary were also some of the many school activities of the time.
After her discharge from the sister’s quarters at the Princess Margeret Hospital, she spent some time at the New Town Convent (Fatima) until she left Dominica in 1974 for Belgium where she died in January 1996. She was 89 years old.
Sr. Mary Borgia was born on the 4th of November 1907.
